Transport Department Notice 

Issue of Private Instructors' Licences

1.

Notice is hereby given to invite applications for the issue of the following numbers of Private Driving Instructors' Licences:

(a)

347 Group 1 Private Driving Instructors' Licences (private cars and light goods vehicles);

(b)

55 Group 2 Private Driving Instructors' Licences (private light buses, public light buses, private buses and private/public buses); and
(c)

58 Group 3 Private Driving Instructors' Licences (medium goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and articulated vehicles).

 

Applicant's Qualifications

Any person who meets the following criteria will be eligible:

(a) is the holder of the following valid full driving licences for a period of at least three years immediately preceding the application:
 
(i) For applying Group 1 Private Driving Instructors' Licences
Classes 1 and 2 (private car and light goods vehicle)
(ii)

For applying Group 2 Private Driving Instructors' Licences
Classes 4, 5, 9 and 10 (private light buses, public light buses, private buses and private/public buses)
(iii)

For applying Group 3 Private Driving Instructors' Licences
Classes 18, 19 and 20 (medium goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and articulated vehicles)
 
and
(b)

has not been convicted of any offence under Section 36 or 39 of the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap.374) during the past five years immediately preceding the application; 
  and
(c)

is the holder of a Hong Kong permanent Identity Card or the holder of a Hong Kong Identity Card who is not subject to any condition of stay (other than a limit of stay as defined under section 2(1) of the Immigration Ordinance, Cap. 115).

Application Forms and the Guidance Notes for Applicants are now available at the following places:

Application Form and Guidance Notes for Applicants could also be downloaded from the Transport Department Homepage, http://www.td.gov.hk.  Xeroxed copies of blank Application Forms could also be used by applicants for filling in all the required data and subsequently submitting their applications.

There are different Application Forms and Guidance Notes for Applicants for different Groups of Private Driving Instructors' Licences. Details are as below:

Applicants should make sure that they obtain the correct Guidance Notes and submit the correct Application Form.

Deadline of Application

8.

Applications must be submitted before 5:00 p.m. on 7 August 2009.  For application submitted by post, the stamped date will be taken as the date of application.  Late application will not be processed.

 

Fees

9.

 The application form and submission are free.

 

Balloting

10.

For each Group of Private Driving Instructors' Licences, if the number of applications exceeds the total number of Private Driving Instructors' licences to be issued, all applications belonging to this particular Group will be balloted and each application will be allotted a priority number.

 

Tests

11.

For each Group of Private Driving Instructors' Licences, applicants who meet the qualification stipulated in paragraph 2 above will be invited to take the test according to their balloted order numbers until the number of Private Driving instructors' Licences of the respective Group to be issued in this exercise are completely filled.
   

12.

For each Group of Private Driving Instructors' Licences, the test is divided into two parts: the written test and road test. Only applicants who have passed the written test will be invited to take the road test.
