Special traffic arrangements for Olympic Day Run 2006

    The Transport Department announced today (June 16) that the "Olympic Day Run 2006" would be held in Wan Chai North on Sunday (June 18).

     The run starts from Wan Chai Sports Ground and will continue along Tonnochy Road, Convention Avenue, Expo Drive East, Golden Bauhinia Square, Expo Drive, Convention Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street, Lung King Street and then follow the same route to return to Wan Chai Sports Ground.
 
     To facilitate the event, temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Wan Chai North from about 8.30am to 11am. The arrangements include:

- Road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented in Wan Chai North, including closures of Tonnochy Road between Convention Avenue and Harbour Road, Hung Hing Road west of Marsh Road, Convention Avenue between Tonnochy Road and Fleming Road, Convention Avenue eastbound between Fenwick Pier Street and Expo Drive East, Lung King Street, Fenwick Pier Street eastbound, Lung Wui Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Fenwick Pier Street; and parts of the roads at HKCEC New Wing. Motorists are advised to pay attention to the traffic signs and directions of the Police.

- Regarding the public transport services, 12 bus routes which operate along the affected roads will be temporarily diverted.  Bus companies will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

- The public transport interchange and taxi stands at Expo Drive East will be temporarily suspended.

- The motorcycle parking spaces and the metered parking spaces at Lung King Street; and  coach metered parking spaces at Expo Drive East will also be temporarily suspended from 6am.

     People who plan to go to the areas mentioned above are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience, and observe the instructions of the Police.
