Second phase of Parking Meter Replacement Scheme starts Sunday

The Transport Department will start Phase II of its Parking Meter Replacement Programme on Sunday (June 27). This will see all the remaining 16,000 e-Park card-operated parking meters in the territory replaced by new Octopus Card-operated parking meters.

A department spokesman said today (June 24) that the Phase-I Programme was implemented from June to August 2003, with new Octopus-operated parking meters installed at about 1,700 metered parking spaces in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, Eastern District, Ho Man Tin, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok and Tsuen Wan.

"The second phase of the replacement programme will start with Central and Western District and then move progressively to other districts. The whole replacement programme is expected to be completed by end-2004."

To inform motorists of the meter replacement scheme, the department has displayed the above message on all e-Park card meters and e-Park cards since the end of May this year. Notices will also be placed on individual meters due to be replaced to notify the public about the date of replacement and the operation of the new meters.

The spokesman said e-Park cards would continue to be valid and accepted for payment on e-Park card meters, until completion of the whole replacement programme.

Motorists who want refunds for their e-Park cards can make use of the 23 refund outlets distributed over the territory (see Annex).
