1st PVRM auction smooth

***********************

The Transport Department announced today (September 16) that the first auction of personalised vehicle registration marks (PVRMs) held today had completed smoothly.

"A total of 210 PVRMs are up for public auction.  The auction is smooth and the total proceeds are more than $11 million,” a spokesman of the Department said.

The PVRM scheme was proposed by the Financial Secretary in the 2004-05 Budget. The aim of the scheme was to provide members of the public more channels to choose their preferred vehicle registration marks.

The Financial Secretary announced in May last year that the net proceeds from the sale of PVRMs would be used for poverty alleviation initiatives.

The next auction of PVRMs would be held around end of October/early November.  The Transport Department would announce the details in due course.
