Pak Sha Road Pedestrian Scheme trial from June 3

The Transport Department has announced that Pak Sha Road and the section of Lee Garden Road (between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road) in Causeway Bay will be closed to traffic from 4pm to midnight on Mondays to Fridays and from noon to midnight on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from tomorrow (June 3).

The closure will be in place for a trial period of about six months to facilitate the implementation of a part-time pedestrian scheme.

A Transport Department spokesman said today (June 2) that since there were substantial commercial, retail and other economic activities in the area, the scheme aimed to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians. The following traffic and public transport arrangements would be implemented in connection with the scheme:

1.  The section of Yun Ping Road north of Lan Fong Road will be converted to a prohibited zone from 4pm to midnight daily. There will be an exception for motorists driving to a carpark.
2.  Motorists on Yun Ping Road heading for Lee Garden Road and Hysan Avenue are advised to travel via Yun Ping Road, Lan Fong Road, Lee Garden Road southbound and Hysan Avenue.
3.  Motorists on Yun Ping Road heading for Percival Street are advised to travel via Yun Ping Road, Lan Fong Road, Lee Garden Road northbound, Foo Ming Street and Percival Street.

"The traffic flow direction on Lee Garden Road between Lan Fong Road and Foo Ming Street will be reversed from southbound to northbound," the spokesman said. "Vehicles on Kai Chiu Road are not allowed to turn left into Lee Garden Road southbound while the scheme is in place."

He added that the taxi stand and taxi drop-off point at the western kerbside lane of Yun Ping Road between Pak Sha Road and Lan Fong Road would be relocated to the eastern kerbside lane of Yun Ping Road (outside Lee Garden II) between Lan Fong Road and Hysan Avenue.

"The stopping points of GMB (Routes No. 28, 30 and 36 [express service]) and RS (Routes HR36, 51 and 60) will also be relocated from Pak Sha Road to Foo Ming Street, Lan Fong Road or Lee Garden Road (between Foo Ming Street and Lan Fong Road) respectively," he said.

Loading and unloading areas on Pak Sha Road, Yun Ping Road, Lan Fong Road and Lee Garden Road will be re-arranged. In the meantime, the existing part-time pedestrian scheme from 4pm to midnight daily on the section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road will be cancelled.

Appropriate traffic aids will be provided on site to guide motorists.
