Special traffic and transport arrangements for New Year's Day procession

The Transport Department today (December 29) reminded people that special transport and traffic arrangements would be implemented to facilitate a public procession on New Year's Day.

A department spokesman said that a public procession from Maple Street Playground in Cheung Sha Wan to Star Ferry in Tsim Sha Tsui would be held on January 1.  To facilitate the procession, Police and the department would implement special traffic and transport arrangements between Sham Shui Po and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Intermittent closure of traffic lanes in Cheung Sha Wan, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui areas will be implemented from 2pm in phases.  About 40 bus routes passing through the affected areas will be diverted and some of the bus stops will be temporarily suspended.

The spokesman also appealed to people planning to go to the affected areas to use public transport.  Motorists are advised to avoid driving into the affected areas. They are also advised to exercise tolerance and patience, and observe the instructions of the Police on site. In addition, commuters are advised to plan their route early and allow more travelling time in case of unexpected delay.

Notices will be displayed by bus companies to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements.  Passengers should take notice of passenger information at bus stops and should watch out the latest traffic news via media.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements for the events have been uploaded onto the department's homepage (http://www.td.gov.hk).
