Transport Department awards contract for telecom services for Area Traffic Control System

The Transport Department today (January 12) signed a contract (TD 48/2006) with PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited to provide telecommunication services for Area Traffic Control (TM&YL ATC) System for Tuen Mun and Yuen Long Districts.

The department spokesman said the TM&YL ATC System contract commenced in March 2006. Traffic signal equipment of the ATC system at about 250 signalised junctions in the two districts would be progressively installed from mid-2007 for completion in late 2008. For proper functioning of the system, telecommunication circuits are required for connecting the traffic signal controllers on streets to the traffic control centre.

This telecommunication services contract comprises the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the telecommunication circuits necessary for the proper functioning of the ATC system and, subsequently, provision of five-year leased services of the circuits.  Construction works of this contract commenced on January 4, 2007 for completion in late 2008, matching the timescale of the ATC system project. The total contract value is about $29.9 million.

The Transport Department has appointed Delcan Arup Joint Venture (DAJV) to supervise the construction works.
