Special traffic and transport arrangements for 2007 International Chinese New Year Night Parade

The Transport Department today (February 16) reminded people that the 2007 International Chinese New Year Night Parade would be held in Tsim Sha Tsui at 8pm on Sunday (February 18). The parade starts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and travels via Canton Road, Kowloon Park Drive and Salisbury Road.

    To facilitate the parade, a series of temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in phases in Tsim Sha Tsui area from 6pm on Sunday, subject to the actual traffic and crowd conditions. The arrangements include:

1.  Road closure and traffic diversion will be implemented in the Tsim Sha Tsui area west of Nathan Road.  Additional road closure may be implemented depending on the crowd situation.  Motorists are advised to pay attention to the traffic signs and directions of the Police.

2.  Regarding the public transport services, 26 bus routes and 6 GMB routes operating along the closed roads will be temporarily diverted.  The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform affected passengers of the temporary arrangements.

3.  Bus stops, public light bus stands, taxi stands and roadside parking spaces affected by road closure will be temporarily suspended.  

    People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. Motorists are advised to avoid from driving to the affected areas. In cases of traffic obstruction, motorists are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions given by the Police on site. TD and Police will closely monitor the traffic situation, and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. People should listen to the radio broadcasts for the latest traffic news.
