Contract awarded for telecommunication services for Closed Circuit Television System

The Transport Department today (April 17) signed a contract with Hutchison Global Communications Limited to provide telecommunication services for the Tuen Mun and Yuen Long Districts Closed Circuit Television (TM&YL CCTV) System.

A department spokesman said installation of cameras for TM&YL CCTV System began in early 2007 at 48 strategic locations in the two districts. "The works are scheduled for completion in early 2008. The CCTV facility will allow traffic congestions and/or incidents to be quickly identified so that early action can be taken to alleviate their impact," he said.

"The telecommunication services are required for transmitting the CCTV images to the traffic control centre of the Transport Department.

"This CCTV telecommunication services contract comprises the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and subsequent five years' rental of the digital video circuits necessary for the operation of the CCTV system. The works of this contract began this month (April) for completion at the end of 2007. The contract sum including the five-year rental services is about $13.1 million," the spokesman said.

The Transport Department has appointed Delcan Arup Joint Venture to supervise the related works.
