Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for May 1 public procession

The Transport Department today (April 27) reminded people about the special traffic and transport arrangements for a public procession next Tuesday (May 1).

     A department spokesman said that the public procession would go from Victoria Park to Central Government Offices, via Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path. To facilitate the procession, the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented between Causeway Bay and Central:

- Road closures and traffic diversions:
Gloucester Road southbound between Causeway Bay flyover and Causeway Road, Gloucester Road northbound south of Sugar Street, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Jardine's Bazaar, Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road will be closed from about 2.30pm. In addition, intermittent closure of slow lanes of Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central east of Ice House Street will be implemented in phases.

- Public transport services:
38 bus routes and 1 green minibus route, which operate at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted and some of the bus stops will be temporarily suspended. The public light bus stand at Sugar Street will be temporarily suspended.

     Notices will be displayed by public transport operators to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements. Passengers should take notice of passenger information at bus stops and should watch out the latest traffic news via media.

     People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists are requested to exercise tolerance and patience, and follow instructions of the Police.
