Special traffic and transport arrangements for celebration parade and variety show (with photos)

The Transport Department today (May 4) reminded people about the special traffic and transport arrangements for a celebration parade at Causeway Bay and variety show at Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday (May 6).

     A department spokesman said that a celebration parade starting from Victoria Park to Hong Kong Stadium organised by the Hong Kong United Youth Association would be held from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday. A variety show would also be held at Hong Kong Stadium from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. To facilitate the holding of the events, the department and Police will implement the following special traffic and transport arrangements in So Kon Po and Causeway Bay areas:

- from about noon, temporary road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented in phases at Caroline Hill Road, Hysan Avenue, Gloucester Road, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street, Hennessy Road, Lee Garden road, Kai Chiu Road, Pak Sha Road, Yun Ping Road, Lan Fong Road, and Eastern Hospital Road;

- thirty three bus routes and 10 green minibus routes operating in affected areas will be temporarily diverted;

- some bus stops, minibus stops and taxi stands in the affected areas will be temporary suspended. If necessary, the tram stops at Yee Wo Street eastbound and westbound near Paterson Street and Sugar Street may be suspended by Police from 1.30pm until crowd dispersed;

- parking meters in the affected areas will be suspended; and

- special bus service Route 117R will be operated from Hong Kong Stadium to Mong Kok at the conclusion of the event.

     "Since there will also be horse races at Happy Valley on the same day, heavy traffic flow in Causeway Bay and Happy Valley will be anticipated. People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport, plan their routes in advance and allow more travelling time. Traffic aids will be provided to guide motorists and notices will be displayed by the public transport operators concerned to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements," the spokesman said.

     "Motorists are urged to follow the traffic signs and avoid driving to the area if not strictly necessary. They are also advised to exercise patience and follow the instructions of the Police," he said.

     The department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. People should watch out for the latest traffic news.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at the "Traffic Notices" of the department's website.
