Streamlined arrangements for transport-related licensing services effective tomorrow

Driving licence holders who apply for renewal of full driving licences, probationary driving licences and driving instructors' licences were, from tomorrow (May 19) no longer required to produce their existing licences, the Transport Department announced today (May 18).

Those who applied for driving instructors' licences or international driving permits did not need to produce their full driving licences, and applicants for disabled person's parking permits would not be required to produce existing driving licences and their vehicle registration documents.

"Removing the requirement to produce relevant licences should help streamline the existing licensing procedure and provide more efficient and convenient services to the public.  The Commissioner for Transport will require the applicants to produce the relevant licences only if it is necessary," a department spokesman said.

"Separately, to ensure that the addresses of driving licence holders and vehicle owners being kept by the department are up-to-date, legislative amendment has been made to make it clear that licence holders and vehicle owners should notify the commissioner in writing of any change of particulars they previously provided to the Transport Department within 72 hours of such change.  These include their names, addresses and identity documents.  They may be required to produce proof of the change when necessary.  In the case of a change in name or identity document, licence holders and vehicle owners should also deliver their existing licences and vehicle registration documents to the department for variation," the spokesman said.
