Response to vehicle registration marks auction relating to PVRM scheme

In response to media enquiries about the first auction of vehicle registration marks since the announcement of the introduction of the Personalised Vehicle Registration Mark (PVRM) scheme, a spokesman for Transport Department said the introduction of the PVRM scheme would not affect the on-going auctions of vehicle registration marks.

The spokesman said: "Today's auction is the first one after the announcement of our intention to introduce the new PVRM scheme. We observe that the proceeds from today's auction are comparable to the past results."

The proceeds from today's auction were $2,541,000. The average proceeds from each day of auction in the past three years (2001/02 to 2003/04) were $2,328,356.

"We are working on the details of the PVRM scheme, with a view to introducing the legislative amendments necessary to implement the scheme into the Legislative Council as soon as possible."

"We will announce the details of the scheme and application procedures before commencement of operation, which is scheduled for end 2004," the spokesman said.
