Contracts awarded for telecommunication services

The Transport Department today (August 7) signed two contracts with PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited (a subsidiary of PCCW Limited) which would provide telecommunication services for the traffic control and Closed Circuits Television (CCTV) system.

     The contracts include the following items:

     (a)  Contract No. TD 170/2006 - Procurement of Communication Links for On-street Traffic Signal Control and Closed Circuits Television (CCTV) Control Equipment;

     (b)  Contract No. TD 171/2006 - Procurement of Communication Links for Closed Circuits Television (CCTV) and Other Equipment.

     A spokesman for the Transport Department said both contracts would begin this month (August).  Under these contracts, PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited will be required to provide telecommunication services for two and a half years or five years, in supporting the daily operation of the traffic control systems, CCTV systems and other office automation systems.

     "The costs of the two contracts are about $39 million and $41.5 million respectively," the spokesman said.
