Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession Sunday

 The Transport Department today (August 23) reminded people of the special traffic and transport arrangements for the public procession on Sunday (August 26).

     A department spokesman said the public procession from Cheung Sha Wan Playground to Star Ferry Clocktower in Tsim Sha Tsui would be held on Sunday. To facilitate the procession, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented between Sham Shui Po and Tsim Sha Tsui.

     The main points of the special traffic and transport arrangements are as follows:

     -  Intermittent closure of traffic lanes in Cheung Sha Wan, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui areas will be implemented from 2.30pm in phases; and
     -  About 45 bus routes passing through the affected areas will be diverted and some of the bus stops will be temporarily suspended.

     The spokesman also appealed to motorists to avoid driving into the affected areas. They are also advised to exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion, and take heed of instruction of the Police on site.  In addition, people planning to go to the affected areas is advised to plan their journey early, use alternative routes, and allow more traveling time in case of unexpected delay.

     Bus companies will display notices to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements. Passengers should pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension of bus stops.

     The Transport Department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. People should watch out for the latest traffic news.
