Special traffic and transport arrangements for procession on Sunday

The Transport Department today (September 28) reminded people about the special traffic and transport arrangements for the public procession on Sunday (September 30).

A department spokesman said the procession from Maple Street Playground to Star Ferry Clocktower in Tsim Sha Tsui would be held on Sunday and special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented between Sham Shui Po and Tsim Sha Tsui.

Main points of the special traffic and transport arrangements are as follows:

- Intermittent closure of traffic lanes in Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui areas will be implemented in phases from 2.30pm; and

- About 45 bus routes passing through the affected areas will be diverted and some of the bus stops will be temporarily suspended.

The spokesman also appealed to motorists to avoid driving into the affected areas. They are also advised to exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion, take heed of instruction of the Police and watch for the latest traffic news through media.  People who plan to go to the affected area are advised to plan their journey early, use alternative routes and allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delay.

Bus companies will display notices to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements. Passengers should pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension of bus stops.

The Transport Department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary.  People should watch out for the latest traffic news.

Details of the special traffic and public transport arrangements are available the department's website: http://www.td.gov.hk/traffic_notices/index_inmode_3_trafficid_9354.htm.
