Traffic and Transport arrangements for religious event and procession

The Transport Department today (October 5) reminds people that a religious event at Hong Kong Stadium and a public procession going from Victoria Park to Central Government Offices would be held on Sunday (October 7). The procession route will include Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path.

     To facilitate the above activities, special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium and at Causeway Bay from about 11.30am on Sunday (October 7) in phases.  

1. At Hong Kong Stadium, Caroline Hill Road between its eastern junction with Leighton Road and Cotton Path will be closed. Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road will be re-routed to one-way anti-clockwise traffic.

2. Road closures for public procession, Gloucester Road southbound between Causeway Bay flyover and Causeway Road, Gloucester Road northbound south of Sugar Street, Sugar Street, Jardine's Bazaar, Yee Wo Street westbound and Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Percival Street will be closed. In addition, the slow lane of Hennessy Road westbound west of Percival Street, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central east of Ice House Street will be intermittently closed.  Motorists are advised to pay attention to the traffic signs and directions of the Police.

3. For public transport services, bus routes operating at Yee Wo Street westbound heading for Wan Chai and Central District will be diverted to Leighton Road/Gloucester Road. In addition, GMB routes operating at affected areas of Hong Kong Stadium will also be temporarily diverted.  Public transport operators will put up notices to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

4. The public light bus stand at Sugar Street and tram stops at Yee Wo Street eastbound and westbound near Sugar Street will be temporarily suspended during the procession.

     People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and follow instructions of the Police. People should watch out for the latest traffic news.
