Chung Yeung Festival traffic arrangements

The Transport Department today (October 11) reminded people about the special traffic and transport arrangements around Chung Yeung Festival.

     A department spokesman said that as large number of grave sweepers were expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge around Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented on roads in the vicinity.

* Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery:

     Road closure measures for this year's Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to the previous festivals. Apart from emergency vehicles, the access road leading to the cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5.30am to 8pm on October 19 (Chung Yeung Festival day).

     "General road closure" will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on October 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28. All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except KMB special bus route No. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and with permits issued by the cemetery. KMB's special bus route will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm plying between Lei Yue Mun Road in Yau Tong and the Cemetery. Passengers planning to take the special bus should pay attention to the schedule of the "General road closure".

* Wo Hop Shek, Fanling:

     Kiu Tau Road (except hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on October 14, 19, 20 and 21. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will be open only to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.

     On October 14, 19, 20 and 21, special traffic management measures; restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to instructions of on-site road signs and the police.

     On October 19 (Chung Yeung Festival day), KMB route No. 76S will be operated between Fanling KCR Station and Wo Hop Shek Cemetery; KMB route No. 70S (Wui Cheung Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek Cemetery) and 74S (Lam Tin MTR Station - Wo Hop Shek Cemetery) will also provide service via Tolo Highway.

* Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area:

     No vehicles will be allowed to gain access to Sandy Ridge except those with Frontier Closed Road Permits every day between 6am and 6pm from now to October 28 inclusive. Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route No. 73K, Green Minibus route No. 59K or train service to Lo Wu. KMB route No. 73K service will be strengthened on October 19 and 21 if necessary.

     The spokesman appealed to people to make full use of public transport, avoid going to the cemeteries on busy days and follow the instructions of on-site road signs, the police or other personnel on duty around the cemeteries.
