Special traffic and transport arrangements on Sunday

The Transport Department today (October 26) reminded the public of the special transport and traffic arrangements for day horse race meetings at Happy Valley Race Course and football match at Hong Kong Stadium on 28 October 2007 (Sunday).

     A spokesman for the department said, "day horse race meetings will be held from 1pm to 5.45pm at Happy Valley Race Course while a football match will be held from 3pm to 5pm at Hong Kong Stadium. Special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented at Happy Valley and in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium.
   
     Main points of special traffic and transport arrangements are as follows:  

* For Happy Valley: from about 12 noon, Wong Nai Chung Road southbound between Queen's Road East and Hong Kong Jockey Club will be closed (except access to Aberdeen Tunnel) and Wong Nai Chung Road between Village Road and Queen's Road East will be converted to one-way northbound;

* Traffic arrangements for dispersal will be implemented from about 35 minutes before the start of the last race. The upramp at Wong Nai Chung Road to Aberdeen Tunnel; Wong Nai Chung Road between Queen's Road East and Village Road; and Morrison Hill Road southbound between Leighton Road and Wong Nai Chung Road will be closed. Bus and Green Minibus (GMB) routes along Morrison Hill Road southbound heading for Aberdeen Tunnel will be diverted via Canal Road flyover;

* For Hong Kong Stadium: from about 2pm, Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road will be re-routed to one-way anti-clockwise traffic to facilitate traffic heading for HK Stadium. Before the end of match, depending on crowd and traffic conditions, additional road closures will be implemented from about 4.35pm for crowd dispersal.  Caroline Hill Road, Eastern Hospital Road and Link Road downhill (towards Causeway Bay) will be closed; and

* Bus and GMB routes operating in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium will be diverted."

     The spokesman also appealed to the public who plan to go to the affected areas to use public transport.  Motorists are advised to follow the traffic signs and avoid driving into the affected areas if not necessary.  They are also advised to exercise tolerance and patience, and observe Police instructions.

     Notices will be displayed by public transport operators to inform passengers of the temporary arrangement. Passengers should take notice of the passengers' information at bus stops and the public should watch out the latest traffic news via media.
