Traffic arrangements in Tseung Kwan O cemetery during Ching Ming Festival

The Transport Department today (March 6) announced that the following special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery to facilitate vehicular and pedestrian movements during the forthcoming Ching Ming Festival:

Temporary Road Closure

    The access road leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed to vehicular traffic on the following Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from Sunday (March 9) to May 4.

(a)  General Closure


    Between 5.30am and 6pm on March 9, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 29; April 5, 12, 19, 20, 26 and 27, May 1 and 4 (except emergency vehicles, KMB Special Route No. 14S, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and vehicles possessing valid entry permit issued by the Cemetery).
                 
(b)  Full Closure


    From 5.30am to 8pm on March 30; April 4(Ching Ming Festival), 6 and 13 (except emergency vehicles)

KMB Special Route No. 14S

    A KMB Special Route No. 14S plying between Lei Yue Mun Road (the eastbound bus stop east of St. Antonius Girl's School) and the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will operate from 7am to 5.25pm on all general closure days i.e. March 9, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 29; April 5, 12, 19, 20, 26 and 27, May 1 and 4. Grave sweepers are advised that there will be no bus service on the full closure days and they should go to the Cemetery on foot via the access road to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery.

Drop-off points for taxis and Public Light Buses (PLBs)

    The following temporary pick-up and drop-off points will be designated for taxi and PLB passengers for interchanging with KMB Route No. 14S or walking to the Cemetery:
(1) the non-restricted zone at Ko Chiu Road northbound near Ko Yee Estate;
(2) the non-restricted zone at Lei Yue Mun Road eastbound opposite Lei Yue Mun Plaza; and
(3) the non-restricted zone at Lei Yue Mun Road westbound outside Lei Yue Mun Plaza.

    As serious traffic congestion is anticipated at the adjoining roads leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery on the day of and the public holidays close to Ching Ming Festival, a Transport Department spokesman appealed to people to make full use of public transport, avoid going to the Cemetery on busy days and follow the instructions of on-site road signs, the Police and other personnel on duty. Passengers wishing to take KMB Route No. 14S are advised to be aware of the dates of the above general road closure.
