Trial period extended for cross-boundary private cars to use Shenzhen Bay Port

The Transport Department announced today (March 26) that the nine-month trial period for cross-boundary private cars to use Shenzhen Bay Port would be extended for six months to the end of September.

A department spokesman said the extension was agreed by the Hong Kong and Guangdong governments to allow more time for cross-boundary private car quota holders to try using Shenzhen Bay Port.  "With valid Closed Road Permit and the approval letters issued by the department, private car quota holders of the other three land-boundary control points can then continue using Shenzhen Bay Port without application until September 30," the spokesman said.

"The deadline for application to switch to Shenzhen Bay Port permanently will also be extended to September 30.  Interested quota holders may submit applications for permanent switching to the Guangdong Public Security Bureau and the Transport Department by end September.

"The Transport Department will send letters to the private car quota holders of Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok crossings to inform them of the detailed arrangements," the spokesman said.
