Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements in Wan Chai North and Causeway Bay on May 4

    The Transport Department (TD) today (May 3) reminds the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Wan Chai North and Causeway Bay tomorrow (Sunday) to facilitate the holding of the flag raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square; a celebration parade from Victoria Park to the Hong Kong Stadium and the "Pre-Olympic Games Celebration" at the Hong Kong Stadium.

    The following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented tomorrow:

1. For flag raising ceremony, Expo Drive East north of Expo Drive will be closed from 6am to 9.45am. The bus terminus, taxi stand and coach metered parking spaces at Expo Drive East will also be suspended. 

2. For celebration parade, major roads such as Gloucester Road southbound between Great George Street and Causeway Road, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Jardine's Bazaar, the slow lane of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road, Lee Garden Road, Kai Chiu Road, Pak Sha Road, Yun Ping Road and Lan Fong Road will be closed from about 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

3. From 1.15pm until the lifting of road closures, 32 bus routes and seven green minibus routes operating along the parade route and those affected by road closures will be diverted.  Bus routes along Yee Wo Street westbound will be diverted to Gloucester Road or Leighton Road. The bus stops and tram stops at Yee Wo Street will be temporarily suspended. The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements. Passengers are advised to take note of the notices put up at the affected bus and tram stops.

4. For the celebration show at Hong Kong Stadium, road closures will be implemented in the vicinity of So Kon Po from about 1.30pm for attendance arrival. From about 5.05pm, road closures will be implemented in the area for attendance departure.

    Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected or congested areas, especially Causeway Bay only if necessary. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow instructions of the Police. The public should watch out for the latest traffic news via media.
