Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for 'Olympic Day Run 2008'

    The Transport Department (TD) today (June 20) reminds the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Wan Chai North and Admiralty North on the morning of Sunday (June 22) for the "Olympic Day Run 2008".

    The event will start from Wan Chai Sports Ground, taking the route via Tonnochy Road, Convention Avenue, Expo Drive East, Golden Bauhinia Square, Expo Drive, Convention Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street, Lung Wui Road and Tim Mei Avenue, and follow the same route back to Wan Chai Sports Ground.

    The following temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented from about 8.30am to 11am on Sunday.

1.  Road closures and traffic diversion will be implemented in Wan Chai North and Admiralty North. Major road closures include Tonnochy Road between Convention Avenue and Harbour Road, Hung Hing Road west of Marsh Road, Convention Avenue between Tonnochy Road and Fleming Road, Convention Avenue eastbound between Fenwick Pier Street and Expo Drive East, Lung King Street, Fenwick Pier Street eastbound, Lung Wui Road eastbound between Tim Mei Avenue and Fenwick Pier Street; Tim Mei Avenue northbound and parts of the roads at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre New Wing. 

2.  Ten bus routes operating along the closed roads in Wan Chai North will be temporarily diverted.  Bus companies will put up notices to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

3.  The bus terminus and taxi stand at Expo Drive East and the taxi stand at Tim Mei Avenue will be temporarily suspended.

4.  The motorcycle parking spaces and the metered parking spaces at Lung King Street, and coach metered parking spaces at Expo Drive East, will also be temporarily suspended from 6am to 11am.

    Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience, and observe the instructions of the Police. Members of the public should watch out for the latest traffic news via media.
