Transport Department prepares for Typhoon Fengshen

    The Transport Department is closely monitoring public transport and road conditions as Typhoon Fengshen approaches.

    The Emergency Transport Coordination Centre (ETCC) of the Department today (June 24) will closely liaise with public transport operators, and Government departments, including the Hong Kong Observatory, the Police, and the Works Departments to gather information and coordinate action when necessary.

    The Transport Department has also arranged staff for site observation to report to the ETCC on the conditions of roads and public transport services. The ETCC will also disseminate traffic and transport related information through the media.

    Members of the public should pay attention to public announcements on bus service arrangements, including those for franchised buses and the Lok Ma Chau - Huanggang Yellow Bus, as the level of service on some bus routes may vary according to demand, road or weather conditions. Passengers are reminded to check with the bus companies on the availability of services through their hotlines.

    Ferry services may be suspended at short notice even before the issue of typhoon signal No. 8. Ferry passengers should listen to the radio for updated information.

    Taxi drivers are reminded that they are not allowed to increase fares during typhoons; it is an offence to charge fares exceeding those stipulated in the Regulation.

    All government tunnels will remain open throughout the typhoon. The Tsing Ma Bridge and the Kap Shui Mun Bridge, however, may need to close the upper deck to tall vehicles due to strong wind Also, the Ting Kau Bridge and Shenzhen Bay Bridge may be closed to traffic if under strong wind. Motorists are advised to listen to radio for further information.
