Transport Department statement on cross-boundary coach services

In response to press enquiries, a Transport Department spokesman said today (March 3) that officials from the department and the Police met Mainland authorities this morning regarding the new measures introduced at Huanggang Control Point.

"We understand that the Mainland authorities have banned operators of cross-boundary coach services from using the Huanggang Control Point as a coach terminus and for ticket-selling starting last night (March 2)," the spokesman said.

"This is a decision made by the Mainland authorities under their jurisdiction. We understand the measure aims to ensure the smooth operation of the Huanggang Control Point and to better regulate cross-boundary traffic at the control point."

The operation of cross-boundary through-coach services, for instance, those to and from Shenzhen town centre or Guangzhou have not been affected.

After being informed of the measure last night, the Transport Department immediately asked the Lok Ma Chau - Huanggang shuttle bus (Yellow Buses) operator and the operators of the feeder services at the San Tin Public Transport Interchange to strengthen their services to cope with the increase in passenger flow.

"From what we have seen last night and this morning, the Yellow Buses and the connecting buses are providing adequate services for the cross-boundary passengers," the spokesman said.

"Passengers to and from the Mainland are advised to consider using KCR train services at Lo Wu as an alternative to avoid congestion at San Tin Public Transport Interchange and Lok Ma Chau Control Point. The Transport Department will continue to monitor the situation closely.

"We will continue discussing with the Mainland authorities the implementation of measures to better regulate operation of cross-boundary coach services."
