"Replacement of Area Traffic Control System" Contract awarded

    The Transport Department today (June 25) signed Contract No TD 4/2008 "Replacement of Area Traffic Control Systems for Kowloon, Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin and Expansion of the System to Tseung Kwan O" with Thorn Security (Hong Kong) Limited.

    The contract, which is about $133 million, includes the design, supply and implementation of a computerised Area Traffic Control system comprising a central computer system, peripheral equipment, about 890 traffic signal controllers and associated detectors as well as civil works and the provision of maintenance services for five years.

    The works began this month (June) and are targeted for commissioning in November, 2011.

    The Transport Department has appointed Delcan International Corporation to complete the design and supervise the construction works.
