KMB Route 61M to serve Yau Oi (South) and Lai King (North)

Transport Department (TD) today (February 6) announced that KMB Route 61M will be introduced to strengthen bus services between Yau Oi (South) and Lai King (North) with effect from February 8 (Sunday)

A TD spokesman said: "This aims to strengthen alternative services to tie in with cancellation of bus Route Nos 52M, 60, 261M and 262P as part of the bus rationalisation programme relating to the commissioning of the West Rail last year."

Route No 61M departing from Yau Oi (South) will be operated from 5.30am to 11.30pm daily; and from Lai King (North) from 6.30am to 12.30am daily at a fare of $6 for non-air-conditioned buses and $7.5 for air-conditioned buses. The service will be strengthened if necessary.

Relevant notices will be posted inside the bus compartments, at the bus stops and terminuses.

Details of Route No 61M are as follows:

* Yau Oi (South) to Lai King (North): via Hoi Chu Road, Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road, Tuen Hing Road, Castle Peak Road, Sam Shing Street, Sam Shing Bus Terminus, Sam Shing Street, Castle Peak Road, Tai Lam bus turnaround area, Castle Peak Road, Siu Lam Interchange, Tuen Mun Road, Castle Peak Road, Kwai Chung Road, Kwai Foo Road, Hing Fong Road, Kwai Fuk Road and Lai King Hill Road
* Lai King (North) to Yau Oi (South): via Lai King Hill Road, Kwai Fuk Road, Kwai Fong MTR Station access road, Kwai Yi Road, Kwai Foo Road, Hing Fong Road, Kwai On Road, Kwai Chung Road, Castle Peak Road, Tuen Mun Road, Siu Lam Interchange, Castle Peak Road, Tai Lam bus turnaround area, Castle Peak Road, Tuen Hing Road, Tuen Mun Heung Sze Hui Road and Hoi Chu Road

Special trips will be provided from Sam Shing to Lai King (North) between 6am and 9am and Tsuen Wan MTR Station to Yau Oi (South) between 5pm and 8pm from Monday to Saturday daily at 12- to 15-minute intervals.

Concessionary fares will be offered to passengers of 61M using Octopus and interchanging with Route No 33A (Tsuen Wan to Mongkok), 37 (Olympic MTR Station to West Kowloon), 42C (Cheung Heung to Kwun Tong) and 234X (Tsuen Wan to Tsim Sha Tsui).

The following arrangements will also be effective from February 8:

* Passengers of 60M using Octopus will be offered concessionary fares when interchanging with 57M (Shan King Estate to Lai King) and 59A (Tuen Mun Ferry Pier to Sham Shui Po).
* Route No 260C (Yau Oi to Kwai Fong MTR Station) will be strengthened to 15-minute intervals and its hours of operation will be extended to 8.30am and Route No 59A will be diverted to travel to Tuen Mun Road directly from Wong Chu Road.
