Special traffic and transport arrangements in Causeway Bay this Sunday

***********************************************************

The Transport Department reminded the public today (November 7) that the following special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Causeway Bay on Sunday (November 9) to facilitate the holding of "Hong Kong Scout Rally 2008" at Hong Kong Stadium:

* From about 7.30am, Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road will be re-routed to one-way southbound and one-way northbound respectively.
* From about 12.05pm, Caroline Hill Road, Eastern Hospital Road and Link Road northbound will be closed until crowds have dispersed.
* During the period of road closures, Citybus Route 5B and GMB Routes 5, 14M and 30 will be temporarily diverted. The bus stops on Tung Lo Wan Road opposite to St. Paul's Hospital as well as Leighton Road near Matheson Street and Post Office Recreation Club will be temporarily suspended.
* On-street car parking spaces and car parks within the road closure areas will be suspended.

The Transport Department anticipated that there would be traffic congestion in the vicinity of the affected area, especially between noon and 2pm when the event is expected to end. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected area. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to make use of public transport services.

The Transport Department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation, and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public should watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast by radio and television stations.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available at the department's website (www.td.gov.hk).
