"Telecommunication Services for the Area Traffic Control System" contract awarded

     The Transport Department today (December 4) signed the Contract No TD 50/2008 "Telecommunication Services for the Area Traffic Control System for Kowloon, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin and Tseung Kwan O" with PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited.

     The contract includes the provision of telecommunication network for the connection of about 200 traffic signal controllers to the Area Traffic Control Centre in central Kowloon and the subsequent leasing of the telecommunication services for five years.

     Work began last month (November) and are targeted for commissioning in May 2011. The contract is worth about $32.5 million.  

     The Transport Department has appointed Delcan International Corporation to complete the design and to supervise the construction works.
