Special traffic and transport arrangements for Night Parade

The Transport Department will implement special traffic and transport arrangements tomorrow (January 22) for the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade to be held in Tsim Sha Tsui from 8pm.

The parade will start at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and travel along Star Ferry Bus Terminus, Salisbury Road, Canton Road, Kowloon Park Drive, Salisbury Road and back to the Cultural Centre around 10pm.

Canton Road, Kowloon Park Drive, Salisbury Road and Star Ferry Bus Terminus will be closed to all vehicular traffic at 7pm. Bus routes and GMB routes will be diverted.

Both the MTR and KCR will strengthen their services during the parade. The MTR will strengthen its service to four minutes between rides on the Tsuen Wan Line between 6pm and 11pm, while KCR will strengthen its East Rail service between 10pm and 11pm.

In addition, Star Ferry will strengthen its services from Wan Chai and Edinburgh Place to Tsim Sha Shui between 6pm and 10.45pm. Discovery Bay Ferry Service will also strengthen its service from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui East between 8.45pm and 11pm.

Motorists are also advised that all on-street parking spaces in the areas of Tsim Sha Tsui south of Haiphong Road and west of Nathan Road will be suspended from 3pm to 11pm. All illegally parked vehicles will be towed away without prior police notice.

Details of the bus and GMB route diversion are as follows:

* The eight bus routes 1, 1A, 2, 6, 6A, 7, 9, and 234X on Nathan Road heading for Star Ferry Bus Terminus, will be converted into circular routes and diverted to travel on Nathan Road, Salisbury Road, Science Museum Road, Chatham Road South, Gascoigne Road and Nathan Road.
* The three bus routes 63X, 271 and 281A on Nathan Road heading for Tsim Sha Tsui West will be directed to travel on Nathan Road and Jordan Road and terminated at Jordan Road (Wui Cheung Road) or Kowloon MTR Station Public Terminus.
* The five bus routes 5, 5C, 8, 8A and 28 from Kowloon East heading for Tsim Sha Tsui will be directed to terminate on Granville Road.

Additional bus stops will be provided to compensate for the bus stops affected by the closure of roads. Bus companies will display notices at the affected bus terminus, bus stop and inside bus compartments to advise passengers of the special arrangements.

The five GMB routes 3, 6, 6A, 77M and 78 on Canton Road heading for Tsim Sha Tsui will be converted into circular routes and buses will make a U-turn outside Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal on Canton Road. The three GMB routes 7, 8 and 62S on Chatham Road South heading for Tsim Sha Tsui will be converted into circular routes and diverted to travel on Granville Road, Science Museum Road, Mody Road and Chatham Road South.

The department urges the public to make the best use of public transport. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and listen to Police instructions. The public should listen to radio broadcasts for the latest traffic news and allow more time for their journeys.
