Letters sent to applicants for private driving instructors' licences

************************************************************

     The Transport Department today (September 10) said that the processing and verification of the eligibility of the applications for private driving instructors' (PDI) licences had been completed. Acknowledgement letters were being sent to all applicants informing them of the receipt of their applications.

     "An individual application number is printed on the acknowledgement letter. If an applicant does not receive the acknowledgement letter by September 15, they should contact the department at 2714 7023 or 2714 7323," a Transport Department spokesman said.

     The Transport Department issued a notice on July 17 inviting applications for PDI licences. The proposed numbers of PDI licences to be issued are as follows:
* 347 Group 1 PDI Licence (private cars and light goods vehicles);
* 55 Group 2 PDI Licence (private light buses, public light buses, private buses and public buses); and
* 58 Group 3 PDI Licence (medium goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and articulated vehicles).

     "We have received about 33,000 applications by the August 7 closure date,  which included about 24,000, 6,000 and 3,000 applications for Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 PDI Licences respectively," the spokesman said.

     The number of applications exceeds the number of PDI licences proposed to be issued, so in accordance with regulation 21A of the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) Regulations (Cap 374B), the department will determine applicants' priorities of taking test by ballot.

     The ballot will be conducted on September 19 (Saturday) and the ballot results will be published on the Transport Department's website (www.td.gov.hk) that afternoon. Letters will be sent to individual applicants informing them of the ballot order number. Applicants can also check the ballot results by calling the 1823 Call Centre or visiting the following TD offices during office hours:
* Driving Services Section of the TD (19 Pui Ching Road, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon)
* Kowloon Licensing Office of the TD (2/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon)
