Special traffic arrangements for New Year Fair at Victoria Park tomorrow

Special traffic and transport arrangements will be in effect tomorrow (January 20) because of the Lunar New Year Fair at Victoria Park, the Transport Department said.

On Lunar New Year's Eve (January 21), special arrangements on an even larger scale will be implemented in the vicinity of Victoria Park.

From the times specified on January 20 until the crowds have dispersed, the following measures will be implemented, depending on crowd and traffic conditions:

(A) Road closures

From 7pm

1.  Lockhart Road east of Percival Street;
2.  Jaffe Road east of Percival Street;
3.  Cannon Street;
4.  Paterson Street;
5.  Great George Street;
6.  Sugar Street;
7.  Cleveland Street between Gloucester Road and Kingston Street;
8.  Kingston Street;
9.  Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road; and
10.  Gloucester Road northbound between the "U"-turn underneath Tai Hang Road flyover near Sugar Street and Gloucester Road (Tai Hang Flyover northbound will remain open unless the crowd situation warrants closure).

(B) Restricted Zone

From 7pm

1.  Except for franchised buses, green minibuses and trams, vehicles are not allowed to pick up or set down passengers at Hing Fat Street between Causeway Road and Electric Road.

(C) Temporary suspension of parking spaces

1.  Victoria Park car park at Hing Fat Street will be suspended from 4pm on January 20, 2004 to 8 am on January 21, 2004; and
2.  All parking spaces in public car parks at the following sections of roads will be suspended from 8pm on January 20 to 7am on January 21:
* Jaffe Road east of Percival Street; and
* Shelter Street.

The Transport Department urges drivers to be patient and follow the instructions of police. The public should listen to radio and TV for the most up-to-date information on traffic conditions.
