Balloting of applications for private driving instructors' licences completed smoothly

***********************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) said that balloting of the applications for private driving instructors' (PDI) licences had  been completed smoothly today (September 19).

     A TD spokesman said that the ballot results are now available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). Letters will be sent to individual applicant informing his/her of the ballot order number shortly. Applicants can also check the ballot results by calling the 1823 Call Centre or visiting the following TD offices during office hours:

* Driving Services Section of the TD (19 Pui Ching Road, Homantin, Kowloon)
* Kowloon Licensing Office of the TD (2/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon)," a TD spokesman said.

     The TD issued a notice to invite applications for PDI licences on July 17. The proposed numbers of PDI licences to be issued are as follows:

* 347 Group 1 PDI Licence (private cars and light goods vehicles);
* 55 Group 2 PDI Licence (private light buses, public light buses, private buses and public buses); and
* 58 Group 3 PDI Licence (medium goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and articulated vehicles).

     The application for PDI licences was closed on August 7. TD received about 33,000 applications which included about 24,000, 6,000 and 3,000 applications for Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 PDI Licences respectively.

     As the number of applications exceeds the number of PDI licences proposed to be issued, in accordance with regulation 21A of the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) Regulations (Cap 374B), the TD determines applicants' priorities of taking test by ballot.
