Help steer HK's road safety vision by voting online

The public is urged to vote for the Road Safety Vision they favour for Hong Kong through online voting, from tomorrow (January 15) to January 25.

The Road Safety Council launched the "Road Safety Vision Competition" on November 20, 2003 with the aim of creating a common vision for road safety and to set clear objectives for future road safety work.

Earlier the public was asked to write their own "Road Safety Visions" - short, clear statements intended to raise awareness and create support for greater road safety in Hong Kong - and enter them in the competition.

The deadline for submission was January 2. A spokesman for the Road Safety Council said the competition had been well received by the public with 3,146 entries coming in by fax, post or email.

Twenty-five short-listed entries will be posted on the website (www.roadsafetyvision.gov.hk) and five winners will be chosen jointly through the public poll and the assessment of an adjudicating panel. The panel is comprised of representatives of the Road Safety Council and celebrities including Prof Chan Wing-ming, Mr Yim Yee-king (Ah Chung) and Mr Chung King-fai.

The spokesman said: "Voting in fact is very simple. Just go to the website and vote for a maximum of five out of the 25 entries short-listed."

"To ensure you vote only once, you must vote with a valid email address. Remember to fill in personal information such as the name and number (first four digits) on your Hong Kong ID Card and contact phone number," he said. "Voters will automatically be entered into a lucky draw and will have the chance to win souvenirs.

"Through the public poll, we will enlist public support for road safety. The Road Safety Council will base its Road Safety Vision for Hong Kong on the winning entries," he said.

Results of the competition will be posted on the website before the end of next month. Winners will be notified individually by post.
