Special traffic and transport arrangements in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai this Sunday

     The Transport Department today (October 16) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai this Sunday (October 18) to facilitate public processions. The arrangements mainly include:

I. Public procession from East Point Road Pedestrian Precinct to the Indonesian Consulate in Causeway Bay.

     The public procession will be held from about 1.30pm from East Point Road Pedestrian Precinct to the Indonesian Consulate. It will take the route via Great George Street Pedestrian Precinct, Paterson Street Pedestrian Precinct, Yee Wo Street eastbound, Irving Street and Keswick Street.

II. Public procession from Cotton Path, Causeway Bay to Southorn Playground, Wan Chai

     Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road, Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Canal Road East, and Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street will be closed from about 2.15pm. About 39 bus routes and one Green minibus (GMB) route will be diverted. During the period of road closures, the bus stops along the closed roads will be suspended. In addition, the GMB stand in Tang Lung Street will also be suspended.

III. Public procession from Victoria Park to the Indonesian Consulate in Causeway Bay

     The public procession will be held from about 4pm from Victoria Park to Indonesian Consulate. It will take the route via Causeway Road westbound, Leighton Road westbound and Keswick Street. After the public assembly outside the Indonesian Consulate in Keswick Street, the public procession will continue to be held from about 4.45pm from the Indonesian Consulate to Victoria Park. It will take the route via Pennington Street and Sugar Street.

     The Transport Department anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of the affected areas will be very congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected areas are advised to make use of public transport services.

     The department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
