New taxi driver identity plates roll out today (with photo)

***********************************************************

To enhance the taxi service quality and the professional image of taxi drivers, the Transport Department (TD) rolled out the newly designed taxi driver identity plate today (October 23).  New specifications of the identity plate and plate holder also come into effect.  Taxi drivers may display the new taxi driver identity plates starting from today.

Taxi drivers with valid taxi driving licences can obtain their new taxi driver identity plates at TD's authorised agents.  A flyer listing the information on TD's authorised agents is available at dedicated LPG refilling stations as well as TD Licensing Offices.  The information is also available at the websites of the TD (www.td.gov.hk) and the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee (www.qtssc.org.hk).

While some dedicated LPG refilling stations will provide new plate holders, taxi drivers may also use other holders which comply with the required specifications.

The TD reminds the taxi trade that the grace period for taxi drivers to display the old taxi driver identity plates will end on February 28, 2010.  With effect from March 1, 2010, all taxi drivers are required to display new identity plates when providing services.  Those who fail to do so will be subject to a fine of $2,000.
