Transport Dept reminds operators to step up hygiene

The Transport Department has reminded transport operators to step up hygiene efforts to help prevent a resurgence of SARS.

A department spokesman said today (January 5) that letters had been issued to both small and large operators.

"The department has reminded them to step up cleaning of the compartments of the carriers and facilities," the spokesman said.

"Health talks for operational staff of minor transport operators and cleaning campaigns for taxis, public light buses, coaches and nanny vans were held during the last SARS outbreak and further health talks and experience-sharing sessions among relevant public transport operators will be lined up when required," he added.

He said that mechanism to monitor preventive measures taken by transport operators through weekly returns and experience-sharing sessions would be activated when required, adding that all efforts were ongoing.
