Special traffic and transport arrangements for EAG events in Tseung Kwan O on December 13

************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (December 12) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented tomorrow (December 13) in Tseung Kwan O to facilitate the holding of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games athletics road races (half marathon).

The section of Po Fung Road westbound between Mau Yip Road and Po Hong Road, the section of Po Hong Road southbound between Po Fung Road and Po Yap Road, the section of Po Yap Road eastbound between Po Hong Road and Wan Po Road, and the northbound slip road between Po Yap Road and Wan Po Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6am to 11.30am.  Meanwhile, 12 franchised bus routes and six green minibus routes operating via the abovementioned road sections will be diverted.

The TD anticipates that the traffic in Tseung Kwan O, Po Lam and Hang Hau areas will be very busy.  Members of the public are advised to watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast on radio and television.  Motorists are advised to avoid driving to these areas.  They should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and follow the instructions of the Police.  Passengers of public transport services are advised to pay special attention to public transport services diversions, frequency adjustment and relocation or suspension of en-route stops.

The TD also appealed to the public for their understanding, co-operation and tolerance of the inconvenience that might be caused by the road closures, traffic diversions and management measures in the areas.  The department's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will closely monitor the traffic and transport situations, and will implement contingency plans as necessary.

Members of the public please watch out for announcements by the TD and the Police, and the latest traffic and transport news broadcast on radio and television.  They may also browse the TD website (www.td.gov.hk) or call the department's hotline 1834567 or 1823 Call Centre for details.
