Special traffic and transport arrangements in Wan Chai North this Thursday

************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (January 12) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Wan Chai North to facilitate the move-out activities at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) this Thursday (January 14).

     The arrangements mainly include:

* Expo Drive East and Expo Drive will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 3pm to about 11pm (except buses and other vehicles with valid entry labels issued by the HKCEC).

* The taxi stand at Expo Drive East will also be suspended from 3pm to 7pm.

The TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Wan Chai North will be busy and congested when many goods vehicles go to or leave the HKCEC in batches in the afternoon. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to make use of public transport services.

The department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available on the department's website www.td.gov.hk .
