Tender for speed map panels in the New Territories awarded

     The Transport Department today (February 5) signed a contract (Contract No TD26/2009) with Autotoll Limited for the installation and subsequent maintenance services of five speed map panels on high speed roads in the New Territories for eight years.

     The works include the supply and installation of five speed map panels, vehicle speed detectors, data communication equipment and central computer system, associated civil engineering works and the provision of computer hardware and software for dissemination of real-time traffic information through the Internet.  The contract sum is about $74.5 million.

     The five panels will be installed in the following locations:

- Tai Po Road (Sha Tin Section) southbound near the Sha Tin Racecourse
- Tate's Cairn Highway southbound near Shek Mun
- Tolo Highway southbound near the Hong Kong Science Park
- San Tin Highway southbound near the Fairview Park
- Tuen Mun Road southbound near Tuen Mun San Hui

     The installation works began last month (January) for commissioning in early 2012.  The speed map panels will provide motorists with real-time traffic information of the routes ahead.

     The department has appointed Mott MacDonald Hong Kong Limited to design and supervise the construction works.
