Traffic arrangements for events on January 4

The Transport Department has announced the temporary traffic and transport arrangements for the "Adidas King of the Road 2004" running competition and "Hong Kong International Classic Cycling Race" both to be held on Sunday (January 4).

Motorists are advised that there could be some traffic congestion that may delay their journeys. They are also advised to listen to the latest traffic broadcasts to avoid a last-minute rush.

Some roads at Chek Lap Kok, Wan Chai and Central will be affected.

The following road sections at Chek Lap Kok will be closed for the "Adidas King of the Road 2004" and public transport arrangements will be implemented as follows:

Temporary Road Closure

* northbound carriageway of East Coast Road section between Cheong Lin Road roundabout and Kwo Lo Wan Road will be closed from 5.30am to 1pm;
* southbound carriageway of East Coast Road section between Tung Fai Road and Kwo Lo Wan Road will be closed from 5.30am to 1pm;
* slip-road leading from Airport Road to East Coast Road will be closed from 5.30am to 1pm;
* Scenic Road section between Chun Yue Road and Chek Lap Kok South Road will be closed from 8am to 11.30am; and
* Kwo Lo Wan Road and Chun Kwan Road will be closed from 4am to 1pm.

During the above road closure periods, East Coast Road southbound section between Cheong Lin Road roundabout and Tung Fai Road will be converted to two-way traffic. Motorists heading for Tung Fai Road are advised to travel via Airport Road, Airport South Interchange, Cheong Lin Road and East Coast Road.

Temporary Public Transport Arrangements

The following temporary bus route diversions will be implemented from 5.30am to 8am and 11.30am to 1pm:

* Bus route S1 (Tung Chung MTR Bus Terminus - Airport Passenger Terminal Building) (circular).

The following temporary bus route diversions will be implemented from 8am to 11.30am:

* Bus route S1 (Tung Chung MTR Bus Terminus - Airport Passenger Terminal Building) (circular);
* Bus route S56 (Tung Chung New Development Ferry Pier - Airport, Passenger Terminal Building) (circular);
* Bus route S52 (Tung Chung, Yat Tung Estate - Airport, Aircraft Maintenance Area);
* Bus route S64 (Tung Chung, Yat Tung Estate - Airport, Passenger Terminal Building) (circular); and
* Bus route S64P (Tung Chung MTR Bus Terminus - Airport, Catering Road East) (circular).

The following road sections on Hong Kong Island will also be closed for the "Hong Kong International Classic Cycling Race" on January 4 and public transport arrangements will be implemented as follows:

Temporary Road Closure

* Tim Wa Avenue southbound, Tim Mei Avenue, the nearside merging lane of Harcourt Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue; and the nearside lane of Harcourt Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue will be closed from 2am to 11.30am.
* Tim Wa Avenue northbound, Lung Wui Road between Tim Wa Avenue and Fenwick Pier Street, Performing Arts Avenue, Lung King Street, Fenwick Pier Street, Fenwick Pier Street Flyover, Fenwick Street northbound between Gloucester Road and Fenwick Pier Street, Convention Avenue between Fenwick Pier Street and Fleming Road, except for the southernmost traffic lane of Convention Avenue westbound, Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central; and Expo Drive East will be closed from 8am to 10.30am.
* The two nearside lanes of Harcourt Road eastbound between Cotton Tree Drive Interchange and Tim Mei Avenue; The U-turn loop underneath Harcourt Road Flyover from westbound to eastbound; and Cotton Tree Drive slip-road northbound between Lambeth Walk and Harcourt Road will be closed from 8am to 11.30am.

Temporary Public Transport Arrangements

The following temporary bus route diversions will be implemented:

* Bus routes 5X and 307 heading for Wan Chai/Tai Po will be diverted.
* Bus route 46X heading for Wan Chai Ferry Bus Terminus will be diverted.

Temporary traffic signs will be erected to guide drivers. Motorists are advised to drive with care and patience when approaching the above road sections.
