Special traffic and transport arrangements for tomorrow

Special traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate a public procession from Causeway Bay to Central will be implemented tomorrow (January 1) afternoon.

The procession will depart from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, and march to the Central Government Offices via Gloucester Road, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street, Hennessy Road, Queensway, Queen's Road Central and Battery Path.

Subject to the traffic and crowd conditions, a series of special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in the afternoon. They include:

* Temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central areas;
* Temporary diversions of about 60 bus routes and seven green minibus routes passing through the affected areas; and
* Temporary suspension of some bus stops, public light bus stands, taxi stands, parking meters and car parks.

The Transport Department advises members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas to use public transport. Motorists are urged to avoid driving there. They should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police in the affected areas.

Also, the department will activate the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre to monitor the traffic situation and will implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public should listen to the radio for the latest traffic news.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at "Traffic Notices" on the department's homepage, http://www.info.gov.hk/td/index.aspx?section=13&lang=1.
