Special traffic and transport arrangements in Hung Hom and Sham Shui Po tomorrow

***********************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (March 22) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in phases in different areas in Hung Hom, Cheung Sha Wan and Lai Chi Kok tomorrow (March 23) from 8.30am to 11.25am in connection with a funeral ceremony organised by the Fire Services Department.

     The arrangements mainly include:

* Phase 1: From 8.30am to 10.30am, Cheong Hang Road, Cheong Hang Lane and the section of Winslow Street between Cheong Hang Road and Cheong Tung Road will be temporarily closed.

* Phase 2: From 10.40am to 10.50am, the section of Castle Peak Road between Tai Nan West Street and Kwong Cheung Street and the section of Yu Chau West Street between Wing Hong Street and Castle Peak Road will be temporarily closed.

* Phase 3: From 11.05am to 11.25am, the section of Po Lun Street between Lai Chi Kok Road and Sham Mong Road will be temporarily closed.  Also, the section of Lai Chi Kok Road between Yuet Lun Street and Broadway (the first junction from Po Lun Street) will be closed when the cortege is leaving.

Due to the above road closures, a total of 47 bus routes and three green minibus (GMB) routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted during the phase 2 and 3 road closure periods.  The concerned public transport operators will post up notices to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.  Moreover, the bus stops, GMB stops and on-street parking spaces in the affected areas will be temporarily suspended until the crowd has dispersed and the roads are re-opened.

Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas. They are advised to plan their routes early, use alternative routes and allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delays.  In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police.  People planning to go to the affected areas are advised to make use of public transport services as far as possible.  They should also pay attention to the route diversions and suspension/relocation of stops.

Depending on the prevailing circumstances, other ad-hoc traffic and public transport measures, including further closures of roads, traffic diversions, alterations and suspension of public transport services, may be implemented by the TD and the Police at short notice.  Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available on the TD's website (
www.td.gov.hk).
