Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island and football match at Hong Kong Stadium this Sunday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (May 27) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in So Kon Po, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central from about 2.15pm this Sunday (May 30) to facilitate the holding of a public procession on Hong Kong Island and a football match at Hong Kong Stadium.

     The procession will start from Victoria Park and take the route along Gloucester Road southbound, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path with its destination at the Central Government Offices.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(a) The following roads will be closed from about 3pm onwards:

(i) The section of Gloucester Road U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;
(ii) Jardine's Bazaar;
(iii) Tang Lung Street;
(iv) The section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street;
(v) The section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road (if necessary);
(vi) Sugar Street;
(vii) Irving Street (except for vehicles heading to the Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
(viii) The section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
(ix) The section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
(x) Kai Chiu Road;
(xi) The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
(xii) The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road; and
(xiii) The slow lanes of Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central westbound east of Ice House Street will be intermittently closed.

(b) In connection with the public procession, 43 bus routes and Green Minibus (GMB) Route 40 operating along the closed roads will be temporarily diverted.  All bus stops along Gloucester Road southbound, Irving Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound east of Ice House Street will be intermittently suspended.  Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

(c) The public light bus stand at Sugar Street and the green minibus stand at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

(d) All carparks along Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound east of Ice House Street may be closed at short notice if necessary.

Football match at Hong Kong Stadium
---------------------------------------

(a) The following roads will be closed from about 2.15pm onwards for the arrival phase of Hong Kong Stadium:

(i) The section of Caroline Hill Road between its eastern junction with Leighton Road and Cotton Path (except vehicles to St Paul's Hospital during the closure of Tung Lo Wan Road); and
(ii) The section of Hysan Avenue westbound between Sunning Road and Hoi Ping Road.

(b) The following roads will be closed from about 5.20pm onwards for the dispersal phase at Hong Kong Stadium:

(i) Caroline Hill Road;
(ii) Eastern Hospital Road;
(iii) Eastern Hospital Road service road;
(iv) Cotton Path;
(v) Link Road northbound;
(vi) Hoi Ping Road; and
(vii) Stadium Path.

(c) During the period of road closure in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium, Citybus Route 5B, GMB Routes 14M and 30, and Residents' Service Route HR 51 will be temporarily diverted.

(d) On-street car parking spaces in the vicinity of Hong Kong Stadium will be suspended.

(e) All carparks along Caroline Hill Road, Eastern Hospital Road and Stadium Path may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.  Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas.  In case of traffic congestion, they are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as and when necessary.  Motorists and the public should watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast via media.
