Special traffic and transport arrangements in Tin Hau and Causeway Bay tomorrow

**********************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (June 18) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Tin Hau and Causeway Bay from noon tomorrow (June 19) to facilitate the holding of a public meeting and a public procession.

Details of special traffic and transport arrangements are as follows:

I. Public meeting in Victoria Park
----------------------------------
A public meeting will be held at Victoria Park from about 4pm to about 7pm.  The roads in the vicinity of Victoria Park, including Yacht Street; sections of Hing Fat Street, Electric Road, Lau Li Street and Lau Sin Street as well as the roads in the Causeway Bay Shopping Area, including Sugar Street; Great George Street; sections of Paterson Street, Gloucester Road and Kingston Street will be temporarily closed from about 2pm onwards to facilitate the arrival of participants.  The above roads will be closed again during the dispersal of participants.

II. Public procession from Victoria Park to Canal Road East
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From about 5pm onwards, the roads in Tin Hau and Causeway Bay, including Causeway Road westbound; Moreton Terrace; Shun Tak Street; Irving Street; Jardine's Bazaar; Kai Chiu Road; Tang Lung Street; and sections of Pennington Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Lee Garden Road, Yun Ping Road, Hennessy Road westbound, Percival Street and Canal Road East will be temporarily closed in phases to facilitate the public procession from Victoria Park to Canal Road East.

During the above road closure period, vehicles from King's Road heading for Wan Chai and Causeway Bay will be diverted via Tsing Fung Street Flyover, Victoria Park Road and Gloucester Road in lieu of Hing Fat Street, Causeway Road and Yee Wo Street. On the other hand, vehicles from Gloucester Road and Percival Street heading for Leighton Road and Happy Valley will be diverted via Gloucester Road and Canal Road Flyover. Buses heading for Wan Chai, Central and Kowloon on these roads will be diverted via Gloucester Road; buses from the Southern District plying between Causeway Bay and Wan Chai via Aberdeen Tunnel will be diverted via Canal Road flyover and Gloucester Road.  Some of the bus routes on Hennessy Road eastbound heading for Victoria Park will be diverted via Marsh Road, Hung Hing Road and Victoria Park Road.

A total of 49 bus routes and five green minibus (GMB) routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements. Moreover, the bus stops, GMB stops, public light bus (PLB) stands, taxi stands and taxi pick-up and drop-off points along the parade route and within the road closure areas will be suspended until the crowd has dispersed and the roads are reopened.  All tram stops along Yee Wo Street and Causeway Road also will be suspended from about 5.30pm onwards until the crowd has dispersed.

The metered parking spaces in Hing Fat Street car park and Tung Lo Wan Road will be temporarily suspended from about noon onwards.  All public and private car parks within the road closure areas will also be closed from about 2pm onwards, until the crowd has dispersed and the roads are reopened.

Due to extensive road closures and traffic diversion in Tin Hau and Causeway Bay on that day, the TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity, e.g. King's Road, Java Road, Causeway Road, Victoria Park Road, Gloucester Road, Canal Road flyover, Aberdeen Tunnel and Cross Harbour Tunnel, will be very congested.  Members of the public planning to go to the affected areas should allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delays.  They are advised to make use of public transport services and pay attention to the route diversions and suspension/relocation of stops. They should also avoid driving unless necessary.  In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience and follow the instructions of the Police.

Depending on the prevailing circumstances, the TD and the Police may, at short notice, implement other ad-hoc traffic and public transport arrangements, including further closures of roads, traffic diversions, alterations and suspension of public transport services.  Members of the public are advised to pay attention to the latest traffic news on radio and television, They can also call the 1823 Call Centre or browse the TD website (www.td.gov.hk) for updated traffic and public transport information.
