Illegally parked bicycles removed from Sha Tin Central (New Town Plaza) bus terminus (with photos)

The Transport Department (TD) conducted a joint operation today (August 13) with the Home Affairs Department, Hong Kong Police Force and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) to remove illegally parked bicycles at the Sha Tin Central (New Town Plaza) bus terminus.

Prior to the joint operation to remove the illegally parked bicycles, the TD had displayed notices at prominent locations in the bus terminus and on 27 illegally parked bicycles to remind members of the public and bicycle owners not to leave their bicycles there or risk having them removed.  After the joint operation today, the 27 bicycles were either removed by the owners or government staff.

The TD has periodically worked with relevant departments, including the Sha Tin District Office, the District Lands Office/Sha Tin, the Shatin Police District and the FEHD, in conducting joint operations to remove illegally parked bicycles in Sha Tin.

To better tackle the problem of illegal parking of bicycles at the Sha Tin Central (New Town Plaza) bus terminus and to address public concern about obstruction caused by illegally parked bicycles, this joint operation was arranged after a detailed study made with member departments of the "Working Group on Tackling Illegal Bicycle Parking" under the Sha Tin District Management Committee.

Members of the public are advised that designated bicycle parking spaces are available on Tai Po Road outside the Sha Tin Central (New Town Plaza) bus terminus.  They are reminded not to park their bicycles in the bus terminus as it will cause obstruction to others and is also in breach of the law.
