***************************************************

A Transport Department spokesman today (September 24) reminded people that as large numbers of grave sweepers were expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge during the Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in roads in the vicinity of these areas.

Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery
----------------------------------------

Road closures for the coming Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to those for last year. Apart from emergency vehicles, the access road leading to the cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5.30am to 8pm on October 16 (the day of Chung Yeung Festival).

General road closure will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on October 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 17, 23, 24, and 31. All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except KMB special bus route no. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and with valid entry permits issued by the cemetery. KMB's special bus route no. 14S, running between Lei Yue Mun Road, Yau Tong and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery, will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm on the dates on which the general road closure is implemented.

Wo Hop Shek, Fanling
--------------------

Kiu Tau Road (except hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will only be open to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.

On October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24, special traffic management measures and restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to on-site road signs and the instructions of the police.

On October 16 (the day of the Chung Yeung Festival), KMB route no. 76S will operate between Fanling MTR Station and Wo Hop Shek; KMB route no. 70S (To Wah Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek) and no. 74S (Lam Tin MTR Station - Wo Hop Shek) will also provide services via Tolo Highway.

Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area
---------------------------------

Except those with Frontier Closed Road Permits, all vehicles will be prohibited from accessing Sandy Ridge between 6am and 6pm during the period from September 25 to October 31. Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route no. 73K, green minibus route no. 59K or the MTR East Rail Line from Sheung Shui to Lo Wu. KMB route no. 73K service will be strengthened on October 16 if necessary.

The spokesman called on people to make full use of public transport, avoid going to the cemeteries on busy days and follow the on-site road signs and the instructions of police or other personnel on duty around the cemeteries.
