Journey time indicator at Island Eastern Corridor commissioned

Another on-site Journey Time Indicator System will enter service tomorrow (December 21) at the Island Eastern Corridor Westbound, outside City Garden, North Point.

The indicators will inform motorists of the travel time required to cross the harbour from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon via the Cross Harbour Tunnel and the Western Harbour Crossing.

This is the third set of journey time indicators to be activated. The first entered service on Gloucester Road eastbound in June this year and the second one, located at the Canal Road Flyover northbound, was commissioned earlier this month.

"With the journey times provided, motorists can decide which of the cross harbour routes to Kowloon from Hong Kong Island is best for them," a spokesman for Transport Department said.

"The journey times shown are calculated from the location of the indicator to the Kowloon exits at the tunnel toll plaza. The information will be updated every five minutes or more frequently.

The Journey Time Indication System, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, will be reviewed in the first quarter of 2004.

To comment on the system, call the Government hotline 1823 or contact the Intelligent Transport Division by fax at 2845 7489 or by email at jtis@td.gov.hk.
