Special traffic and transport arrangements for 14th Tour of South China Sea International Cycling Race this Sunday

************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (December 9) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented this Sunday morning (December 12) to facilitate the holding of the 14th Tour of South China Sea International Cycling Race.

The race will start at Queen's Road Central and progress via Pedder Street, Connaught Road Central, Rumsey Street flyover, Western Harbour Crossing, West Kowloon Highway, Tsing Kwai Highway, Kwai Tsing Road, Tsing Hong Road, finishing at Tsing Yi Road.

To facilitate the holding of the race, road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented in phases. Traffic flow will be intermittently suspended to facilitate the race along the race course in the territory.

A total of 11 bus routes at Queen's Road Central in Central will be temporarily diverted to Des Voeux Road Central.  Three bus stops on the affected route - outside Cheung Kong Centre, opposite the HSBC Main Building at Queen's Road Central and outside Wheelock House at 20 Pedder Street - will be temporarily suspended.  A temporary bus stop will be provided on Des Voeux Road Central westbound outside The Landmark.

A total of 17 bus routes and seven green minibus routes operating in Tsing Yi will also be temporarily diverted. Affected bus routes include airport routes and routes travelling to Tsing Yi. Bus stops along the affected routes in Tsing Yi will be temporarily suspended.

People heading for the China Hong Kong Ferry Terminal or Hong Kong International Airport are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid any delay in arrival due to road closures and traffic diversions.

The TD anticipates that traffic in the affected areas will be congested. People planning to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible, and allow more travelling time.  They should also pay attention to the latest traffic news broadcast by radio and TV stations. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available on the department's website (www.td.gov.hk).
