On-site testing on performance on eATS

An on-site testing on performance of the electronic audible traffic signal (eATS) arranged by the Transport Department (TD) for blind associations and visually impaired persons this (August 29) morning in Sham Shui Po was concluded with valuable views and suggestions received.

A TD spokesman said since the commencement of eATS project early this year, most of the blind organisations and VIPs had been in support of the eATS project while some had said otherwise. To address their concern, the Department arranged for representatives of blind organisations and VIPs to attend a testing of the new features on site to collect their views for further improvement.

Three new features tested on site included:

* Four different eATS tones;
* Effect of lowering eATS speaker unit; and
* Effect of slotted openings on both sides of the speaker unit.

The spokesman said: "We have demonstrated on site the further improvement of our work done and illustrated the effect of the new features. Afterwards, we will further seek their views for improvement."

He said: "We will continue to work together with the VIP organizations on improvement to the eATS project and maintain dialogue with them with a view of obtaining their supports."
